Redoing aquascape

I am unhappy with the way my tank is currently aquascaped. I did something I thought I would like and hate it, so I am going to redo it.

My question is when I redo it should if I leave room in the back, or if I can put rocks all the way against the back pane of glass. I understand flow and dead spots, but aside from that is there any reason I shouldn't leave more room in the front and minimal in the rear?

i leave some room in the back for my fish have room to swim around. i also like the fact of having alittle flow back there to help with gunk building up. some of my rock is on the back glass but there are plenty of caves, holes and open areas fo the fish to swim/hide and flow to get thru.

the main question I have is how far back they can go. Obviously piling them against he back is just asking for a problem, however is there a real reason to not go as far back as possible? I mean as long as there isn't a huge dead spot I am fine right?

I also need to find a good way to hold them together so fluffy (Globe urchin) doesn't decide he doesn't like the way they are while plowing through them

If I can add a nickles worth here. I have rock up against my back glass. To contradict what has been commented, you will not be Piling up against the glass. Your weight is downward. You will have open area's against the glass for water flow. You just have to accept that you will never have perfectly clean back glass. Mine is filled with Coraline and some green star polyp. If you stack rock properly you will have no pressure on the back glass. Enjoy your tank the way you want it.

if your tank is a long and narrow then its difficult not to have rocks against the back, however if its wide enough to avoid doing so then leave a gap, simple as that i think

I have nothing against stacking against glass. There is no real danger in doing so. If you want to change your aquascape and stack your rocks against the glass, you will end up with a fruit stand just like most.
