first time putting corals in

Getting ready to add some small corals. Now the stupid question, but do you just drop them in or do you place them in certain places like on rocks sand etc? I see so many that are "fragged (whatever that really means) and it looks like they are epoxied to some sort of ceramic disc.

pick coral by what type of lightng and flow you have in your tank. start off with soft corals/polyps/mushrooms.

dont just drop them anywhere. certin corals need certin lighting/flow, so find out what that specific coral needs and place it accordinglly. "Frags" generally come on discs or pieces of rock/shell just so they have a base that can be glued/epoxied in place. snails (and my female clown) have a habit of knocking over coral.

"Frags" are fragmentations of corals.

Not only is placement important, but I would also suggest to "float" and/or drip acclimate the coral just as you would a fish. Although this isn't nearly as important with coral as it is with fish and inverts, I would still go through the small extra step to minimize the shock from being moved to a new environment.
