New to the forum, have a few questions
I have been reading post on this forum for a few weeks now and finally decided to register. I have been impressed with the wealth of information available on this site.
I set up my first marine aquarium about 1 year ago and everything has been going well since then. it is a 65 gal tankwith a mix of sps and soft corals and several fish. My current situation is that I am having an explosion of aiptasia. I have tried several products(aiptasia x being the latest). None have seemed to work. I was wondering if anyone had had any luck with the Copperband Butterflyfish eating aiptasia in a reef aquarium? I have several soft corals and a clam so I dont know how big of a threat a copperband would pose to them? any suggestions? Thanks |

I would throw in 3-4 TRUE peppermint shrimp first--give them 2-3 weeks.
And WELCOME to RC, Merry Xmas!

Use an insuline syringe filled with some liquid calcium. If they are in a tricky spot feed them some cyclopese or similar before injecting them. They won't come back. Pepperment shrimp are a good invert to have and will eat aptasia.

![]() To Reef Central You can try various animals like cbbutterlfys and real peppermint shrimp. But be mindful that each specific specimen of these still may not eat aptasia, they can be picky. Some peppermint may eat the aiptasia and some might not. It's just the way it is unfortunately. I would recommend trying a shrimp and/or a butterfly AND manual erradication (syringe with kalk or specifc anti-aiptasia chemical) |

I dont think the peppermint shrimp would last more than 5 seconds in my tank because I have a pinktail trigger. Ill try the liquid calcium first and see how that works. You guys wouldnt worry about the copperband nipping at a clam or some soft corals?
Thanks for the quick responses |

I would be more worried about the copperband not eating anything else and starving to death in your system. Injecting the liquid calcium via insuline syringe into the stalk of the aptasia makes them explode on site aka you won't be disapointed
