Eggcrate in sand?
I am almost ready to add water/sand to my new 90g upgrade. I used eggcrate in the sand of my 55 to hold the rocks in place. Is anyone else using this or something else. I used it to keep the rocks off the bottom and keep them from slidding around. How does everyone else do it?

I used a .250" white poly board similar to a cutting board this last time and put the rocks on it then added sand. Before that I used the same type board only .750" thick and drilled it for .500" acrylic dowels I set the rocks onto then pushed the sand in under and around the rocks. That worked fine just lots of work that I didn't see as much benefit.

I think that eggcrate will restrict your borrowing inverts like Nassarius snails and the like from get to all the detritus unless you had a deeper sandbed. I used LR rubble to stand my rocks on. JM.02

I'm curious of this too! I'm also in the process of upgrading to a 90G but plan to only have a SSB....about 1 1/2" to 2". I was thinking about using zip ties to secure the bottom rocks to the eggcrate to provide a more stable foundation

The eggcrate worked for my 55 so I am onboard to do it with my 90g too!

I used eggcrate and 3"sand when I re-did my 180.
My rock is more stable and I didn't crap my pants every time I dropped a big rock.

I also have egg crate under the sand bed... couldn't imagine stacking all that liverock on bare glass! Doesn't seem to bother the sand bed fauna.
