lights on a refugium?

Howdi peeps! I was wondering if most people have lights for their fuge's or if they are only needed when trying to grow different types of macro algae like cheato.

I have used a 65w lights of America 6500k bulb from HD for years. Macro grows like mad.

You need them for macro but not otherwise. I use Home Deopt spiral flourescent spotlights($7 per 18w bulb with 75w equivalent output). Chaetomorpha does quite well with this light.

If I recall the brand name was vision quest and they had kelvin ratings. I went with something around 6500k.There is a picture of them in the middle of page two of this thread.

i use a regular desk lamp with one of those energy star compact fluorescent bulbs you get at walmart for like $1. Works great!
