Why does the skimmer water level change when the sump water level changes

For hang on skimmers. I cant for the life of me understand the physics of this. So basically the water level over the pump is changing and it is affecting the skimmer water level. The pump is going at a steady rate regardless of the water level, does it have to do with pressure?

I'm not sure but it might have to do with the changing pressure on the actual skimmer cylinder? Maybe you have different pressures on the water inside when the sump level differs? Like I said, I'm not sure either just throwing it out there...

Hi,
I think it is all to do with the head pressure on the pump.If the sump water level is "high" in relation to the skimmer, then there is less head pressure than when the sump level drops. When the sump level is low, there is more head pressure & the pump has to work harder.HTH
