Octopus BH-2000 protein skimmer HOB...HELP!

OK....So maybe this thing is to big for my tank(29gal)....i dont know???
1. the directions are a joke!!!!!!!
2. There is an o-ring that is supposed to go on the outside of the collection cup so when you put it in place(when it fits in the top of the reaction chamber) no water or bubbles creep out the sides of the sides of the cup......at least thats how i take it. well guess what...the o-ring is to big, the cup and the o-ring dont fit. so bubbles and water creep up the sides of the cup.
3. Ive been in the salt water business for a month!!! so i know Nothing....this is my first protein skimmer. the micro bubbles were filling every chamber and and my tank. it was nuts!!! i adjusted the air vent thing and still micro bubbles were everywhere.
Im really frustrated and not sure if its me or the skimmer. probably me.
Any help would be glorious! thanks.

I beleave the o-ring is there the adust the cup height which with an air adjustment valve control how your skimmer skims wet or dry try raising the cup up and restricting the amount of air

yes that is true, it takes time for the skimmer to "slime up" also there is some residule "oils" left from manufacturing all is normal part of a new skimmer

I just put the Octopus BH-800s on my tank about a week ago. I believe, by looking at the pictures, that they are pretty similar. I too have bubbles galore. Have you raised the skimmer cup as far as it can go and still be stable? Mine has a thumb screw that goes through the reaction chamber and tightens against the collection cup to hold the collection cup at the level that you set it at. I have had a little bit of liquid collect around the o-ring, which does not make as good a seal as I had hoped. Currently I have the collection cup set very high. I am hoping the thing calms down once it breaks in.
