Cover fish tank or cover canopy for jumping fish
Hi all,
I've got a eurobraced tank with a canopy that's half enclosed on the back (upper half). I am going to be getting a quite a few jumping fish: wrasses, dartfish, etc., so I'm wondering how to cover my tank. If I cover the tank with netting, I cut down on lighting. I can instead cover the back of my canopy, but then a fish might jump onto the eurobracing. Are fish smart enough after jumping on the eurobracing to jump back into the tank? Thanks, Kevin |

No, they are not. They generally, assuming metal halides, cook. You will need netting/mesh with 1/4 inch holes (not egg crate, which will not keep them in)

Perhaps you could put a bordering lip on both sides of the brace high enough so fish would bounce off should they jump in that direction? Or, you could make a steep roof-like structure so they'd roll off the brace and back into the tank?

I have an open top 9" rim on my tank: made of light pine and laminate, it's very light, lifts off, and is higher than even the most determined jumpers can manage.
I did cover the pump-hose ports and the downflow with gutterguard and plastic needlepoint canvas.
