will this work on a wet dry filter?

ok so my tank is not drilled and honestly I dont want to have it drilled, but I want to use a wet dry filter that I bought. I already have a fluval 405 on it. I mainly want to use the wet dry for added filtration and so that I can put my coralife 125 protein skimmer down in it for a cleaner look inside my tank.

I think that the syphon overflow is just not going to work for me, if the power goes out Im SOL, I know there are ones out there that do not loose syphon but still I dont like the idea that if syphon is lost and Im not home bad things will happen.

cant I get a pump that does not have to be submerged in water, have it draw water from the tank, through the pump and then into the top of my wet dry system. then have another pump that I will attach to the bulkhead thats already on the system pump water back to the tank?

will that work? if not can someone explain to me why just so I can understand.

Thanks for all your help!
Nathan

it just might but is very risky. i don't recommend it as the outcome could be similar to an overflow

Gunk buildup in pumps. the bottom pump loses performance. the sump overflows.
