Quarantine and inverts
Hi gang,
I have a quarantine question regarding inverts. Quarantine for fish is easy, with observation if they did show signs of disease they could be treated then after the incubation period be added to the main tank. What about inverts? First off they could not be treated with typical medicines. Also, what if they were a "passive" carrier of a disease where they never actually showed any abnormal signs. I'm just trying to understand how quaratining an invert would help. thanks again |

I have never had a bought invert infect anything. I am sure there are invert-specific diseases/parasites (the only one common is pyramid snails infesting clams)---so I have never qt'd them, or rock. Coral should be dipped in a dip specific to type.

Anything wet can bring in diseases that you can't see, such as velvet or ich that can wipe out your fish. Rock can also bring in ich that just may be in nooks or crevices in the rock. Inverts and coral can also be carrying diseases in the water as well. ALWAYS QT anything wet for 4-6 weeks to make sure these diseases die without fish hosts.
