Can I take apart my stand?

I am trying to fit a new sump under my tank and it won't fit unless I remove the central post from the stand. Is this safe to do? I think the pictures explain it pretty well, but in general, the tank does NOT sit on this post or on the horizontal beam that this post supports. Maybe it's just to stabilize the stand and could be removed for a few minutes?
Suggestions?

That looks like a standard AGA stand. correct? I have removed mine many, many times to pull out the sump. I don't want to be held responsible for anything in the event something were to happen so I recommend bracing it with a cut 2x4 (which is what I did the 1st couple times I did it). I am almost certain it is there for asthetic purposes for when the doors are closed but I am no structural engineer. Again, the short of it is I have removed mine probably 20 times over the years and never, ever had a problem.

Where do you put a 2x4 brace such that it's not in your way?

I have a 125 on a similar base with a 40 long underneath for a sump. Take the brace out, put the tank under there and then put the brace back. You need it....period.

I did mine before I set the tank up though. If you already set the display tank on top then you have a problem.

Yup, the DT is on and full. But if the DT does not rest directly on this support than won't the other legs bear it's fraction of the weight for a few minutes?
