Brackish tank brown algae bloom

Hello,
I have a brackish tank set-up in a 12 gallon Nano Cube. I started the tank with 2 spotted puffers and a plant (I believe it was a Myrio), after cycling it with only some dead rock and coral skeletons for 1 week. The plant died almost immediately and one of the spotted puffers followed soon after. Within 24 hours of the plant and fish dying, I had a large brown algae bloom covering my coral skeletons and rocks. My SG is at 1.010. I like to figure out how to clear up the algae. The guy at the fish store today told me to soak the rock/skeletons in dilute beach water for 2 hours, followed by a decolorination soak in tap water. I just wanted to make sure it's okay to do that, or if there is a better way to clear up the tank. Any suggestions? Thanks!
