Growing out brine shrimp?

Wasn't sure which forum to put this in, this one seems sufficient.

I would like to grow out brine shrimp to adulthood, i have read that it could take from a week to a month for them to reach adulthood. I have also read that they are non-picky filter feeders, and they eat things such as whey, yeast, and wheat flour.

My question is has anyone done this and what was your experience with it?

See http://web.cecs.pdx.edu/~davidr/disc...s/artemia.html for everything you need to know. I do it, but not to adulthood (yet). I use brine shrimp direct as my vendor of choice.

Yes I have raised sea monkeys and they are interesting for a while and do eat yeast.

What is the purpose of raising them? If it is for food they are at the height of their nutritional value when the egg sack is still attached, its all downhill from there. So raising them to adulthood would have to be about something other than a good food source...

Adult brine shrimp can be gut loaded. Also, it's one of the first foods finiky eaters will touch.

Actually gut loaded adult brine shrimp are even more nutritious than baby brine shrimp. The protein content of adult brine shrimp is greater than the nauplii but the fat content is lower. Adding Super Selco will restore the fat content will retaining the protein content.

You are correct. However, you can not feed them immediately after they hatch because they are incapable of eating. You need to wait 12 hours, then you want to add about 5 drops of Super Selco per liter. Then wait 12 hours and harvest them.
