Question on Frag Tank

I just started a 10 gallon frag tank. I was wondering if I need to cycle the tank. I was thinking this is not necessary since there will be no fish. Also any advise... do I need snails and crabs or am I OK with just coral.

If it's a frag tank, is it not bare bottom?
Is it in-line with your system to increase water volume and you wish to incorporate a sand bed?

It is bare bottom. The frag tank is not part of my display tank. Its a 10 gallon tank with some egg crates, a heater and a pump to circulate the water

Yes you will need to cycle the tank.. Unless you you are going to move over some live rock from your display, and some water from your display. I would fully cycle it before putting any corals in it.. You could also keep some fish in it to make sure the water is ok.

How much water should I move over from my other tank to be OK?

How big will your frag tank be? Also you will have to move some established live rock or some established filter pads from your dispaly.. or you will have a cycle.

Dude, wait 'til your next water change on the 55, then do at least 25 gallons. If you play it smart, you can bypass the cycle all together. Good Luck

Good Idea, forgot to mention that.. But you will need to move over something that will carry the bacteria you need!

I would also put in a feather duster worm because they will show a good reaction to drastic water changes or a problem with metals.

I never thought of doing a water change and putting established water in there. I guess I'll do that and move a piece of my live rock over. How big of a piece of rock should I use?
