depending on what livestock you want to keep you might for the depth, but it won't cover the entire tank. The general rule of thumb is one mh bulb covers a 2'x'2' square.

I would look at more watts too. A 20k (depending on ballast and bulb company) probably will not give you much growth either.

2x150w would be fine. If you used Radium 20ks, you'll get growth just fine. Not like using 250w 20ks or 150w 10ks, but still good growth.
I have 2x150w 14k phoenix and get great growth. |

GatorWPB-
Are you running the 150's over the 65 listed under your profile? Are you using t-5's as well? I'd be interested to hear more about color and growth of coral in your tank. I've got a 36x18x24 65 that I want to run MH pendants on, but I'm not too fond of 2x250 MH power bills. thanks- -avp

I plan too keep some softies , anemone and maybe some Lps corals.
Will I be able to increase the coverange of tank with 1 150watt 20k mh if i ownself customize a wooden canopy house for the mh with the measuring of 20 inch * 18 inch with a good reflector ? By the way I might be putting the corals in the middle of the tank only just directly under the mh. T5 light buld replace ment in my country here is exepensive compare to mh bulb. A 24watt t5 ho bulb here cost around RM50 here while Mh bulb for a 150 watt 20K BULB is only Rm 100- 120. If I change 4 t5 ho bulb it will cost around Rm200. And also I love the shimmer effect of mh lights. |

My growth was better when I was using the Aqualine AB 10ks, but the growth with the Phoenix is still very good. I do supplement with 420nm actinic, just to help with the purple, red and orange colors. I have even thought of switching to t-5s just for a change, but I will likely be sticking with what I have until I upgrade the entire tank. here's a pic of my tank. |
