My equipment list for a 150G FOWLR

Sometime around spring i would like to get a 150gallon Trigger/puffer tank going and i would like some opinions on my list of things needed.

Here is my list of equipment:

tank- 150gallon
sump- 75gallon
Stand- A pretty one
Skimmer- Octopus Extreme 250
Flow- 4 Koralia 4's
Return pump from sump- Mag 12 or 18
Heater- 2- 200watt
Light- Something basic

So there is my list... PLEASE let me know if im missing something that i will need

thanks
mark

If I were to do it, I'd up the skimmer. Both of those fish are messy eaters and you are pushing what the skimmer can handle. I don't want to suggest a skimmer since I haven't researched the larger ones myself. Would you put a refugium in the sump?

40x turnover on a FOWLR? OK, but probably more than you need IMO.

I personally would do an RO filter even on a FOWLR setup, but that's because my water sucks.

You also left out the tons of little accessories, but I am going assume you just care about the big stuff...if you want accessories too I could list 'em off. What you have there is a good start.

Current Tank Info: Current system is 8x2x2 240g peninsula setup with a single "chamber" 100g sump in the basement with an RDSB. All corals are 100% home grown from frags of fellow reefers (low natural reef impact).

I'd say your off to a good start. I personally like your skimmer & Koralia choices. Much better than most starts I've seen.

A 75 gallon sump will have plenty of room for a sweet refuge.

Possibly p/u a Ranco dual controller for your heaters & fans.

Sorry - Ranco makes a dual temperature controller. Plug your heaters into one side & your cooling fans into the other.

Then you set the temp you want your tank to maintain & it will turn your equipment on & off as needed.

Heaters are very failure prone & Ranco controllers are bulletproof by comparision.

http://www.rancoetc.com/ranco-etc211...age-p-105.html

If you do utilize one, I recommend you set your individual heater controls slightly higher than the Ranco. Better safe than sorry.

They make single & dual units. Singles would only control heat or cool. They are available many places online & come up occasionally used on here.

All the little (and not so little) stuff that you'll obviously need, but could get opinions on....
Refractometer
Test Kits
Temperature montior
Test Kits
Fans (may not need)
Did I mention Test Kits?
MagFloat Scraper
Salt (which)
Food (which)
Substrate (which or none)
Fuge
Overflow (if you're not drilled, which I hope you will be)
Mechanical filter-probably a sock on your sump line since your an eel short of the messiest tank you can have

...did I miss anything?

That's a big return pump unless you have a basement sump... A Mag 7 would probably be a better fit if the sump is in the stand.
