Does the skimmer pull consistenly that amount of skimmate and how often. It seems that a med. would be over sized.

that's about two days of heavy feeding. the medium is rated for something like 400 gallons, but how do you overskim a reef?

Very easy. Put a huge skimmer on a small tank and run it wide open. In effect you may be skimming out more than just unwanted DOC's. You may be removing important trace elements, small planktonic organisms, etc...



Now, that being said, I don't personally think you're in danger of overskimming your tank with what you have. It's certainly a big skimmer for your tank, but IMO not too much.

Current Tank Info: ghetto grad school reef.....11g rimless tank, 36X9X9, lit by Cree and Rebels scobbled together. Stocked mostly with free stuff I got from panhandling my fellow reefers.
