im using x3 1" for overflows and x2 3/4 returns.for my closed loop im using x2 3/4" intake and x2 3/4"returns.

i could have probably gotten by with x2 1" overflows but since i had the diamond hole saw and extra bulkhead i thought it couldnt hurt, just in case.

on my 110g prop system i have x4 1" overflows and x5 3/4" returns.the returns are not comming back thru the prop tanks wall, they are hanging over the side.

hope this helps

if it were me, i would use 2 x 2" drains - better to have more than enough drain.

I'm not sure I would run the CL through the drain. You are going to add that much more flow through the teeth of one little box. Could cause you problems. Noise being one.

I would probably opt to simply drill another hole right into the display area for the CL.

Good luck on getting a consistant flow from the overflow into your skimmer as well. Your drain lines will have a water/air mix that isn't consistant which more than likely will fluctuate the level in the skimmer. It's not impossible to overcome but it's just as easy to set a small pump in the sump in the area where you are dumping the overflow water into. It is still picking up "dirty" water.
