A few questions about GSP
I have a small 3" piece of GSP that I added to the tank 2 weeks ago and it seems to be doing fair. They've gotten a little smaller and lost a little color. They keep opening up every day so I figure they are still adjusting.....No?
Secondly, I added a bigger piece of GSP about 8" on Sunday and here it is Tuesday and they still havent opened up. Could they still be adjusting too? And lastly, There are loose pieces that are not attatched to the rock hanging off of the sides of the big rock I just purchased, will they still live even though they are floating around? Or should I cut these flaps off and glue them on a small piece of rock? Tank is healthy so I dont think its water params. Are they getting too much light? 216 watts T-5 for a 55 gal. 10 hours actinic, 7 hours 10k. I placed the rocks midway in the tank. Oh, one more thing. I also noticed these tiny little bugs running around on the LR in my tank, I have no idea what they are. I bring this up because I just started noticing them since I brought the first piece home 2 weeks ago. I just wanna make sure they are not pests. I dont know how to describe them other than they look like large fleas. Dont see them swim and they are too small and too quick for my mediocre camera skills. ![]() |

Yes, they could still be adjusting to your tank, sometimes it can take a week and it seems like soft corals and polyps often take the longest. If you don't secure the free floating pieces they may or may not ever attach to something on their own. If they don't find something to attach to they will probably die and/or get sucked up by your filtration.
What do the bugs look like? Any of these? http://www.melevsreef.com/id/pods.html

About the lighting, I don't keep green star polyps, but it is usually best to start new corals near the bottom of the tank unless you know what type of lighting they have been under wherever they came from.

Thanks for the tips. I will re-attach the loose piece as soon as I can, maybe after they adjust. It is Wednesday night and they still havent opened up.
