how come my cheato keeps dying and starting an algae bloom?

what is this? i keep up on water changes and everything is key, i jsut cant seem to keep it alive.

what about water flow? chaeto loves water flow... I have a power head facing directly at the chaeto creating the "tumbleweed effect"

No light, low flow = dead chaeto.

I would make sure it is getting lots of light. I have mine in a lower flow area of the tank and have it spread out like spagetti so it gets lots of light - versus having it in a ball.

It is my understanding that when cheato dies, it releases nutrients into the water column, hence you get an algae bloom.

Mine wasn't growing very much until I used a Tupperware container raised above the sump with the bulb very close to the chaeto. Growth has doubled since getting the light closer to the chaeto.

i have t5 lighting ( maybe 12inches above the water surface, and i have fine waterflow. when i had cheato in the tank it was perfect water conditions i always keep up on my water changes and dose calcium iodine and stroniu
