Euro Reef or Reef Octopus?

I'm getting a new in sump skimmer for my FOWLR 125 gallon and I cant decide between the Euro Reef RS 135, and the Reef Octopus Extreme 200. Does anyone have any suggestions? Thanks in advance

I would buy the Euro. Their proven to work I have had many Euro's and have always been happy. You may find another skimmer that pulls more air or lower wattage but I know Euro's work without a whole lot of tinkering out of the box. JMO.

Not really a fair comparison. As far as specs go the RS135 is a totally different unit than the Octo. A more comparable skimmer would be the CS135.

In performance the Octo extreme is a far better skimmer. On pumps alone its far better. The Sicce PK2500 will draw more air and use less wattage than the Sedra on the ER.

If you had to choose between the two its most certainly the Octo....But to be fair the RS135 is not meant to compete with a skimmer like that. Its an older simpler design using what is now an outdated pump design. Not to mention there is no method of diffusion, the body and neck are also smaller.

Not saying that euro-reef is a bad product. I've met the guys their and have talked with them at MACNA. I'm just saying that the euro-reef in this comparison is hopelessly outclassed.

Does anyone believe that you should buy an inferior product just because you like the company that makes it? I guess I just don't understand.

octopus extreme 200 and the msx-200 are very similar. the main difference is the volutes. i think the octos look nicer, but the pinwheel that comes with the msx is supposed to perform better. so i guess it is a toss up, i would go with whatever one is the best deal. and i run my pinwheel and it does great, i have no complaints, no start up issues, and it really does not perform any worse.

Octo Extreme will outperform the ER.

I beleive what he means is the 2 EXACT skimmers that the OP is questioning. Not question is the octo better in this comparison as these 2 models are not meant to compete with each other.

In general i think that euroreef offers a better product and service, but in this particular comparison it would be silly not to go with the octo
