Home Theatre Effect on Tank

Hello -

Pretty simple question. What kind of an effect does a home theatre system have on a tank?

My tank will be a 300 gallon acrylic tank that will be on one wall of the room and the TV will be on the other side of the room (about 15' away from the tank).

Currently, I would like to get the Klipsch Quintet III speakers and a 10" powered sub on a decent Yamaha receiver in that room but I don't want to sacrafice the fish tank in any way. Will the bass vibrate the water too much and stress the fish or because of the vast amount of flow in our tanks already, will the fish even notice the bass. I'm not talking about sitting a sub infront of the tank and blasting loud music at it. Just want some feedback and experiences if possible. Thanks!

I run a 15" sub on a Yamaha receiver and I have never noticed it to be an issue. At one time the sub was about 3' from the tank.

It seems to be quite a questionable topic. There's those that say sound and vibrations do effect fish and there's those that say it doesn't. I don't suppose there'll ever be a definite answer without scientific evidence to back it up.

Won't be an issue at all. My front 3 speakers are driven by an Aragon 8008X3 (( 200watt per channel )) power amp, and have never had any issues at all. The left main speak is about 2 feet away from the tank.

I have a 5" sub sitting against my stand. I have never noticed any problem with my fish, even if I am watching a movie while they are sleeping. I must say though, my fish are sound sleepers, it takes everyone 15 minutes or so to wake up after the light comes on.

I also have my tank in my family room. I had the same concerns before I set it up. I have never noticed a problem. IMO it either doesn't affect them, or they are used to it. I think Clowns like classic rock the best. haha.

Yea - I think I'm not going to go too big anyways. Like I said, BB is offering the Klipsch, Yamaha receiver, and 10" sub for around 1k which is a pretty sweet deal. Shouldn't be to bad either way.

I also did some thinking and debated this in my head before I posted. My thoughts are 1. bass will shake the walls, stand, water, etc.... 2. fish might have sensory cells that can pick up more than just vibration (not sure on this)

However, in a 300 gallon tank, I'm going to be targeting somewhere in the neighborhood of 10k gph of flow through the display. I highly doubt the base will be able to conquer that kind of flow or make any significant differences to that. So that leaves me with sound. Well, so far, I have never noticed any problems in the past with just the sound bothering fish. So, I have decided, with all of your help that I will get this sysetm and see what happens. I don't think I'm going to be rocking the house either way.

Will keep in mind classic rock for the clowns when I want them to mate!

Never had a problem. 1250W Onkyo setup in the same room as my tank, nobody seems to be worse for the wear...except my dog. She always leaves the room when we watch movies.

no problem for me....i run two 18" and one 15" self powered subs along with five channels driven by a proceed hpa 3 and 2.... thats over 5kw of power and while i can rattle the windows upstairs, the fish don't even notice. if only the wife was as uneffected as the fish...lol.

Well - most of your systems are far superior to anything that I'm putting in and you are all making me feel very comfortable with my choice!

I'm going to Best Buy after work to pick this stuff up I think. Pretty happy with the President Day's sale.

Are you looking at a projector for your home theater?

If so you need to consider the impact of the ambient light from the tank on the picture quality.

I live with this but have an in-wall tank that minimizes light spoll beyond the tank
