proper placement of bulkhead

Hi, I'm about to drill the back of my tank and wasn't sure how far down from the top I should place my hole. It is a 1 inch bulkhead (with teeth in the front) that will serve as my drain into my sump.

what size tank? a 1" drain will only flow about 300 - 350 gph safely, and that will leave you little or no margin for error. unless your tank is very small (20g), i would use a larger (preferably 2 larger) bulkhead.

as for where? as long as it is 1 hole diameter or more from any edge or other hole, wherever you like, but keep in mind that if it is to be a drain without standpipe, drilling lower than as close to the top as you can WILL result in an empty tank the first time the power fails.

it is really up to you where you put the bulk head some people like them on the back of the tank some prefer the bottom of the tank only thing with the bottom is you have to make sure it aint tempered (u cannot drill tempered glass) hope this helps
