cycling/live rock question
hey everybody,
I recently got some live rock, roughly 30-40lbs from a tank that got taken down. The rock had been out of water for about 24 hours. I put all the rock in a bucket with a heater and a power head with water from my main display. It's been in there for a few weeks but the nitrates haven't really dropped of much they're around 10-20ppm. Should I wait for them to reach zero before putting the rock into my main display? It's a 90g aga with a 29g sump. The main tank was upgraded from a 55 to the 90 around july. I had the 55 up for about 4 or 5 years. The main tank has about 75lbs of live rock already. I just don't want to cause any unnecessary damage. Thanks in advance. |

You should be ok to start adding to the 90 gallon. I would do like 5 -10 ibs at a time and wait a day and test. It shouldn't make your tank cycle If you add it slowly. over the course of a week / week and 1/2.

Are you doing any water changes on that rock bucket? I'd do a couple 100% water changes (coordinating them with display tank water changes can make it pretty easy... pull water from the display, put it in the rock bucket, then new water into the display).
