it's only a carbon filter, so no, not very effective at doing much more than removing chlorine.

I didnt find any model numbers or anything on it but they state that there is activated carbon and ION Exchange resin as well as a basic pleated filter

hmm. perhaps they've come along some since i last looked at them. in any event, chances are that they will not last very long, especially compared to the standard full size ro di units and will be much less cost effective than using a proper unit.

I could test the TDS before and after just for kicks, but here would be my bigger concern. I believe some of these filters will actually add things to the water to improve the test. Generally, I think it's just salts, but either way, I doubt these filters are going to be all that effective. If I can remember to try it out tonight, I'll try it out and let you know.

I just gave it a quick test.

Kitchen tap 198
With PUR 168

A little disheartening, since I drink that water.

Good to know, that it doesnt do alot but I was wondering, I have had someone local (lives in the same town) tell me that the water here wasnt bad only something like 35-45 PPM if the filters removed the same of 30 ppm that would drop it to 5-15 ppm not to bad I dont think..

Thanks for the information I will know for sure soon enough, looks like I am going to have to order a TDS meter should be in a few days or so
