Algae or Sponge ID *PIC*

In this picture right below the dendro and in the surrounding area there is this black stuff. You can peel it right of the rocks and it comes off in chunks im unsure what it is anybody have an idea and what I should so about it ?

I think I have the same stuff. It feels rubbery right?

I believe that it is a type of sponge.

I'm going to say sponge. But really, does it matter? Don't do anything about it unless you find it aesthetically unappealing. It's not hurting anything.

Like PaulB advocates, who cares if we have a bit of "nuissance" algae here and there. I've had a tiny bit of bubble algae for a very long time, and it's a welcome bit of diversity.

It certainly does not look like cyano, I would go with a type of sponge also although I never saw a black one quite like that. I would leave it alone and brag that you have something no one has

I've seen that type of black sponge at work. It doesn't really cause a problem unless it starts growing up the skeleton. We mostly had a problem with it smothering zoanthids, but it is easy to remove and not that prolific IME.
