Lumenarc placement help/light break in period help
Hi,
I was wondering if anyone knew how many inches a Lumenarc Reflector should be placed above the aquarium water? Also, what should I do about new bulb break in period? How many hours should the break in period be? This is a 250 watt fixture with a Phoenix 14k bulb. I need to know if I should place some mesh screen over the tank and possibly run the lights less? How many hours etc? Thank you all.

is this the first time you are introducing MH lights to your tank? If so then you will need a acclimation period for the lights. Mesh top is a popular method. You can get some egg crating from HD or Lowes and put several sheets of screen over the top and remove on every week or so. As for the break in period for the lights I am not sure. The height for the light should be 10-12 inches above the surface of the water.

I had a 150 watt mh on there before. Since my canopy is shorter, I was only able to place the light 8-9 inches from the surface of the water. Do you think this will be okay? This is only until I get a new tank up and running. Please let me know. Thank you.

What kind of corals do you have at the moment? What is the photoperiod you were running with the 150's? How high were the 150's before?
