Fuge Question
I have a small fuge with some Cheato and a sandbed. What types of snails do I want to add to it? Any other critters?
Thanks. |

IMO I wouldn't waste the money putting anything in there other than live rock rubble. I have ceriths down in my sump due to eggs that they've laid all over my glass.
IME if you add some live rock to your refugium, plenty of critters will start growing down there all on their own. This includes snails, copepods, bristleworms, amphipods, tiny starfish, etc. Somewhere 6-9 months down the road, it should be teeming with life.

You really don't need any snails at all. If it's in a viewable area, you could add a few trochus or astraea snails to help keep the glass clean, but in general, you're trying to grow algae, so you avoid any creatures that are going to eat it. Nassarius snails could also be used for the sandbed, but again, that's not necessary. In short, there's no need to add any animals to your fuge.
