vinegar, sugar, vodka...
which one do you dose?
or is it supposed to be all 3? im currently dosing vodka... and it seems that it is working for me... how about vinegar? sugar? theoretically... the added carbon source will cultivate a certain bacteria... so which one is more beneficial? or better feed them all? what is the dosage for vinegar and sugar? |

I believe vinegar is used to lower ph. A friend of mine used sugar and it worked flawlessly. There is a great thread on here some where about it, if i find it i'll post the link. Some people do not recommend it and I am not endorsing it or arguing against it, it worked great for my friend. To give you an idea though, he had a 30 gallon cube and dosed 1/4 of a teaspoon every night for about 3 or 4 days and that was enough to drop nitrates to 0.

sugar
http://www.reefcentral.com/forums/sh...hreadid=898931 vodka http://reefkeeping.com/issues/2008-08/nftt/index.php a little something on vinegar and limewater http://web.archive.org/web/200304181...io/default.asp I would just stick with one. although, I have seen people mix ethanol and glucose for a specific reason for which I am unaware. |

No, its either one or the other...
I never heard of vinegar dosing. I did sugar dosing about a month ago and i can proudly say that i have 0 nitrates!!!! yay!!! they were around 35 and not coming down at all, even after stirring the sandbed, 20% weekly waterchanges and feeding to every other day. Couldnt find the problem at all. I highly recommend proper sugar dosing!!!

Question for you faze, do you still dose sugar, or did you stop once your NO3 hit 0? If you did stop, did you stop abruptly, or slowly ween off sugar?

i think... you should establish a maitaining dose... otherwise... it will start climbing again... this is what im doing for vodka... slowly rising... and once it starts dropping... find the optimal dosage for it...

You are correct, others in this thread are wrong. It's usually abreviated to VSV and is detailed a little more here. http://glassbox-design.com/2008/achi...perimentation/ Disclaimer: I'm in no way supporting these methods or claims made within this link ![]() |
