Xenia arms falling off?

Hey guys I got a couple frags of pulsing xenia a couple weeks ago from a local reefer and it looked very healthy in his tank. I brought them home mounted them and everything but I've noticed that arms have been falling off both pieces. Not alot just a few every now and then. Is this normal?

Both of the pieces seem very healthy, fully open during the day and pulsing (slowly but pulsing).

My params are good as I have an elegance and a torch that are doing awesome. Let me know if you need me to list the params.

Sounds like it is spreading to me. Is it just the arms or stalks?

Just the arms, the stalk is intact.

I get the same with my kenya tree (which is going back to the LFS for this reason). What I have found with the kenya is if it is at all restricted with growth, it will pinch itself off and send the amputee to stick somewhere else and grow on its own. If it doesnt have a ton of room to stretch out, it will prune itself. Keep a good eye on the branches, before you know it it can take over the whole tank like dandelions on a prestine lawn.

No one has ever killed a xenia, you would be the first.

LOL there very hit or miss.. They grow like a weed in my tank and I will give them to friends and the fall apart/melt away. . I should add they dont normally drop arms like a kenya (I have this too, aaarrrr its a pain) normally xenia spread with flow then split

Well as far as I know, they typical signs for an unhealthy coral is loss of color, stays closed all the time, starts "melting" away. None of these are visible with my xenia. As stated it's open everyday, all day.

I was just curious as to why it's dropping arms.

I was just thinking of getting a kenya, but if I'm gonna have to go fishing for kenya arms often I might just stay away from it

There are tons of people that can't keep xenia. It is a matter of nutrients in the water column. This is why so many people use xenia in a refugium. I have such a low bioload, and skim so much that xenia doesn't really stand a chance in my tank. Trust me, I've tried.

You never know, expressions are hard to convey in typed words. And besides that I don't know a soul that can't keep green slimer except me. I actually know people that have let it sit on their deck overnight and placed it in their tank the next day and it was fine. I can't keep it.

Oh ahah, well it's hard to tell tone in words. I was actually serious if he was implying that my xenia is dying. Didn't mean for him to get berated hehe
