What size is your tank? What kind of Iodine did you dose? How much of it did you dose?

Thanks
Dennis

Just add a good amount (A liter or so) of activated carbon. It will remove most of the iodine in a couple of hours

i cant understand why anyone would dose iodine without knowing they need to, how do you know you need to dose it? and regular water changes should be enough unless your an experienced reefer with hundreds of corals, dont dose it imo

doseing

I normally only dose for a while when starting an algae scrubber.

From there on i leave the trimmed alage in the tank to break down.

No more doseing.

Recycleing!!

It works very well.

I add it because I was told to by one of the most reliable LFS dealers around who only deals in Saltwater. He tested my water, He knows what I have in the tank and told me how much to add each week. I take a sample into him each week for him to test and decide if I am ok or what I need to add. For my 72gal He has me adding 3 drops a week of Iodine.

Iodine is relatively short lived in an aquarium and activated carbon removes it rather quickly.

Here is more information on iodine and iodine supplements.
By the way, if you do regular water changes and feed your tank no iodine or trace elements supplementation will be needed.

Only 0.1 ppm? That's no concern at all, if accurate, and assuming it was a reasonable supplement material (like iodide). IMO, I wouldn't bother changing water or carbon or anything aside from your usual routine.

FWIW, I don't think dosing iodine is useful for most folks, possibly only excepting if you keep certain gorgonia that may need it. many of use dosed it for years and stopped and saw no apparent negative change, not in shrimp or any of the things that people implicate as needing supplemental iodine.

Without knowing WHY Iodine even benefits a reef tank, and we don't know if it even does. There's no way of knowing a proper dosage anyway. Are you testing for iodine?

Iodine is one of those 'catch all' supplements that has no scientific backing what-so-ever. If I were you, until you can come up with a specific reason, backed up by research, as to why you're even dosing iodine, I'd stop.

im very grateful and delighted randy has posted here, thank goodness, hopefully some of the guys and gals will listen to him, as he said and id agree even as a novice complete rookie when it comes to chemistry i cant see why its dosed by most reefers, and as my post above as well its only for some with lots of corals who know what they are doing. oh and thanks as well returnofsid, good post too, thanks guys

I dose iodine daily and have never tested for it. I've heard both online and from people at the LFS that the iodine is pretty hard to test for since it is used in the aquarium so quickly.

I use Kent's Concentrated Iodine. Directions are to dose 8 drops per 50 gallons daily. I have a 55g and dose 8 drops daily (Unless I forget, happens once a week or so)
