Need help with a simple fuge setup.
I have a 55 on a metal stand with my equipment right in the display, which I would like to get rid of by installing a fuge underneath the stand. My stepsons pet hamster just died yesterday which freed up a 10g tank that fits perferctly under the DT. So I am soaking it in Vinegar and debating if I can install it with the equipment I already have. Might be a crazy idea but to me it sounds doable.
I already use a Penquin 350 bio-wheel just for filtration. I use carbon media in it but have the bio-wheels removed. Could I use my bio-wheel as an overflow by tapping into the bottom of the bio-wheel with my plumbing and piping it right to the fuge? Then for the return I have a maxi-jet 1200 that I could use but I dont know if it has enough oomph for my application. Am I nuts for thinking about trying this or should I just purchase a HOB overflow? Thanks in advance for any help. Kinda new to all this (9 months into it) |

I'm afraid it won't work... you will not be able to find a return pump that will exactly match up the flow rate of the bio-wheel pump, and you will end up overflowing the fuge, or overflowing your display tank. You will need to purchase a Hang-on-Back overflow, dedicated to supplying your fuge with water (siphon overflow) or else drill your display tank for a bulkhead drain.
