I'm sure it can be used that way.
I am currently running ChemiPure Elite (which contains GFO) in my sump and am pleased with the results.
Might not be as efficient as it would be in a reactor but it will work.

like uncle salty said, it can be used in a micro bag, but its not nearly as effective as when used in a reactor. the same with carbon. i use both GFO and carbon in reactors now and seem to need much less product as when in media bags.

I would def. get a reactor to run that in. TLF reactors are like $30, worth every penny and makes that expensive GFO go way further.

It comes with a bag. But as everyone said, it would be much more efficient in a a reactor.

it can also be used in a canister filter as well, but the reactor is the best method

I can speak for the reactor, but I use the bag for mine. As long as the water goes through the bag and not around it, it will work good. I'm very happy with it.
