too much light?
I need some opnions...is 2 x 250w halides overkill on a 65 sps? tank is 36lx18wx24deep. Should I go with 2 x 175w instead? Will be mounted in a 12" canopy. Will also have 2 36" VHOs. Thanks.

Well, I have two 400w MH over my 65 and no it is not too much light. The only trick is power consumption and heat. I am using lumenbright reflectors to keep the pendent higher above the tank and I run a fan when the lights are on and I have yet to have a heat problem. If you can, 175w could work if you use high quality bulbs, ballasts, and reflectors. It is possible to coax out 250w PAR numbers with a 175w set up. The canopy will be the only issue as far as trapping heat, but 250w over a 65g is not where near overkill.
