Loud Overflows

We recently setup the 120. I did the overflows and plumbed everything. Well we are getting the loud gurgling sound on the overflows and where the overflows go into the filter sock. About ever 10 seconds. Its like water is backing up then surging creating the sound. Any ideas?

Do you have it set yp like a durso? Do you have a T at the drain with a cap?

What size PVC are you using for the drain lines? They look a little small.

That could be an issue, my durso is 1.5" which then reduces down to 1" after the bulkhead.

Could also just mean that you need to adjust your air valve at the top of the durso to allow more/less air in.

One thing I have found is the line from the prefilter to the sump has to be a continuous slope down with no loops or anything that forces the water flow back up.

Or maybe you are just trying to push to much flow through them. A 1" hole will only handle so much water no matter what you do.

Excellent! I just did a test.

I am running 2 x Mag 7's and I turned one off and left one running, NO MORE NOISE.

My question will it be ok to use one pump for both returns? Hooking the Mag 7 up with a Y connector to both returns.

My tank is a 120g

You could either do that or throttle down the 2 you have with a ball or gate valve. You should have PH for circulation in the DT tank anyway, and not count on your returns for flow, just to move water through your sump. So IMO 1 would be O.K. My friend has a 150 and uses 1 pump split through a T fitting. So its up to you, you could either split 1 pump, or throttle back both of them until you stop getting the gurgling.

700 gph should be plenty for your 72 tank. I would run one and save the energy. I would also use at least 1 1/4 " standpipes.
