New Calcium Reactor

dKH - 15
salinity - 1.024
Nitrate <10
phosphate - 0
CA - 420
PH - 8.3

PM Calc. Reactor.

I have been reading articles on how to set these. My dKH is very high. I know that CA and alkalinity rise and fall together. How do I prevent my alkalinity from getting any higher. Is this a CO2 adjustment or a calcium adjustment. How will the high alkalinity affect my reef. Should I try to use other means to lower it to normal levels. Please help.

The other strange thing I was reading... They say you want to keep your ph in the reactor at 6.5 to 7.0. Is this what you do in your tank.
Do you put your ph probe in the reactor or in your tank. At the present moment, I have it sitting in my sump (a nice calm area of it). Do you just use a buffer to maintain your ph level. Need some advice if you can help out. Thanks.

Alkalinity is a CO2 adjustment.

A pH of 6.5-7.0 is needed to break down the media. However, you don't want to go below 6.5 or you can turn your media into mush. Some media can withstand a lower pH than others, so you will want to double check the media you are using and the minimum pH it can tolerate.

This is why you use a pH controller and a solenoid. This will monitor the pH in either your effluent, or inside the reactor, and automatically turn the CO2 on or off (via the solenoid) depending upon the pH limits you set.

Read Marc's article, it is very helpful and well written. Also, it has some nice starter flow rates/bubble rates to shoot for... always remember to make adjustments slow... good luck.
