Computer Savvy people need help with Windows XP!
Hello everyone, I figured I would post on here since there are a lot of people that might be able to help me in this area...
My laptop wont start up! Well it does, it starts screen gets to the Windows XP screen where it loads(green bars), then I see a blue screen and restarts immediately! It does this over and over. Ive tried the safemode, last good known command etc.. and keeps restarting lol. I bought the laptop from someone without the XP recovery disks 2 years ago. I'm guessing its a bad hard drive?. Someone even said it could be the RAM. Anyone have this problem on XP?

It would seem like some how you are missing a system file. That is why it keeps rebooting. The only thing that use to fix this for me was to completely reinstall windows again. See if someone has an install disk that you can use if not you will have to buy the software. Iam sure that someone in here can help you fix it.

I am guessing you where having a Spyware issue and you did some sort of scan/clean.
Does it Blue Screen of Death you? or does it Restart (all the way back to Post)? or does it just Log you in and then logs you right back out and starts the cycle over again? |

Oh - 1 thing you can try.
Load in to safe mode or recovery via the CD - then do a chkdsk /f - or a Scandisk (if available) - have it correct any allocation errors - that might recover your damaged system file. but all in all - you are going to benefit from a system reload - just need to get your data off your laptop prior. |

I had the same thing happen on my lap top recently. It just shut down abruptly and then did what yours is doing. My boot sector was corrupted some how. I suspect a virus although I have virus software running at all times. so much so it makes the darn thing really slow. I was able to make a recovery CD by booting from a XP cd. Good luck!

if you can get an xp disc, try setting to load from cd first in setup. it will boot from the disc and do a repair, this might or might not work. if it is a corrupted file then it should fix the issue, if it is hardware than you will have to go another route. this is an easy way to try to fix it first.
what brand and model laptop do you have? |

you can prolly get a copy from Toshiba too... it may cost $35.00 or something, but I think you can get a copy of the setup disk that came with the laptop and use that to reset it to factory.
give them a call and give them the serial number off of it. good luck |

Check your memory modules as well. install a new pair memory (borrow from someone just to try out) and reboot to see what's up.
