recomend skimmer...50 breeder w/40 breeder sump/fuge

What would be a good skimmer for a 50 breeder with a 40 breeder sump/fuge?

was looking at the bubble magus bm 100 or the 105. Alot of people seem to be very pleased with them

I have not made it yet so it is free space right now.

The MSX160, BM150, or an I-Tech100 would be a good place to start looking for a good deal on a skimmer for a high end mixed reef tank of your size.

MSX 160 would be a great fit. I run one on a 55. Awesome skimmer.

Considering the pump problems the Vertex skimmers are having in the long term....no thanks. Just remember Mojo some of us have to rely on our skimmers longer than just two weeks at a time....

I was looking at that Octopus Extreme 160 and it seems to be a good choice accually has the right spacing for me and only needs 8" to 10" of water to run

even long term there have only been a few problems. The thing is most of those people are on RC so we do here about it. But you probably have a 1% chance of having an issue. But its all good, All the skimmers suggested here will work great. I have had two of the 100's now gen 1 and gen 2. I might even try a 180 not sure yet. lol Well happy easter weekend to everyone. and god luck with your skimmer purchase. the msx 160 is always a great choice. It will be a bit big for your setup but not bad. Run the pinwheel on the 160 and you will be set. Run the Purple pinwheel (large) if you are feeling you want more.

I have the BM150 on a 40g BB SPS reef and it is a little too much. On a 55+ gallon tank it would work great. I run a barebottom tank and I feed 10 fish constantly 6-7 times a day with flake and frozen. It pulls everything out but I can just tell its a little too strong. I have had numerous other skimmers including DELTEC, ASM, DAS, Euro, ETSS, and some other crappy ones, and the BM150 definately is a better buy (price to size) than all the others I tried.

Just saw that your going to have a 40g sump......so the 150 would be alright but I think a 100 would easily suffice for a mixed reef with moderate fish. If you like to overstock, then get the 150

How about ER RS80 or Tunze 9005 or 9010?They are relatively small footprint and you have a lot of extra room for other gear.

Thanks for all the recomendations on the skimmer...but I think what I will end up with is 2 50 breeders 1 display and 1 frag tank and 2 40 breeders 1 for the sump 1 for the refugium...this way I can run it all as one system. We will see I change my mind often...lol...Next week I may want a 10,000 gallon tank.....NOT.
