Geo Calcium Reactor check valve question

I'm a click away from buying a 612 reactor package but I wanted to know if I need the extra brass check valve that is recommended to go in between the CO2 regulator and the CO2 input to the reactor. I noticed that the reactor has a check valve on it's CO2 connection on the reactor but why does GEO recommend another check valve in line on top of that?

I use two, but the plastic ones. If there is even the remotest chance of a backwash, use two. redundancy here will hopefully save you from a new solenoid/regulator. They don't work right once you put water in there.
