Could you keep a lobster from the supermarket in your tank?

No, I am not going to do this, nor do I have any interest in doing it, I was just in the supermarket today and was wondering how long a live lobster would live in a home tank. For the rest of their natural lives? What do they eat?

they need cold water so a powerful chiller is required. I think they eat meaty foods and they are basically scavengers in the wild.

Could always stick a tank in the middle of the fridge and then tell your guests to get you a beer!

There are reef lobsters we can keep, but the supermarket ones won't last long.

sure, just turn the heater up to 175F - you likely already have enough salt in the water, but adjust to taste.

drain, butter, and serve.

There was a used lobster tank near me on craigslist a while ago I almost snapped it up, it would have made a great peninsula tank with its rounded front glass.

Why waste a perfectly good lobster if you're not going to eat it?

I have seen tiny Florida Spiny lobsters grow into ten pound monsters in captivity over the course of years. They have one at a store in Hollywood that eats 12" grunts!! I will look for a picture.

Beware, They are a big PITA.

Usually at opening or end of season I'll do several dives collecting lobsters, and I set up a 60g tank so I can keep them alive for lobster BBQ w/ friends/neighbors.
They're fine for a few days/week, but they are cold temp creatures.
I've had the purple reef lobsters last quite a while in my tank, but they are a PITA, and tear up everything.

Here's a pic of last opening season BBQ.
That was I think 3 dives worth, kept in tank for almost a week.
