Lighting question

Why do some fixtures have external ballasts for MH, and some don’t? Are the fixtures that don’t have external ballasts much heavier, so more difficult to lift into place?

Can a fixture be used with a canopy, if there is adequate ventilation, instead of a retrofit kit?

What is the advantage of putting together a lighting “ensemble” by purchasing/choosing the individual ballasts, bulbs, reflectors, etc as opposed to just purchasing a fixture with all included (Aqualight, Outer Orbit, etc.)?

Thanks for the help!
