if he eats brine/blood wurms does it still need a lot of rock to survive?

Mandarins need lots of live rock that is populated with live pods. They may eat brine and sometimes even frozen food but that often fails to provide the correct amount of nutrition. Although some will disagree, mandarins are difficult to keep healthy.
I have a mature 180 and have many pods but have still been hesitant to consider one. They are beautiful fish, but the success of this hobby is gauged by survival. |

+1 to that..or at minimum around a 100 gal tank and a sump/fuge to help with pod production. Tank recommendations on many "store" sites are just way, way to small.
I have a 75 gal with 30gal sump and will not get one.

agree with all that was posted. you need the rock to keep them healthy, also brine and bloodworms are not nutritious at all
