overflows

I have the aqualight pro 250w and im noticing since the lights shine into the overflows im getting algae growth in the boxes. I once a week take the clumps out but want to try and eliminate it from that area so it doesn't clog the pipes god for bid.

Has anyone ever made a top/cap for the overflows that come with an All glass aquarium set up. My tank is made by oceanic but same design flows as the All glass ones.

I just saw a thread where a guy went to a hardware store and bought some foam, and used a dremel to cut it out. Then I think he glued plastic to the top so he could grip it. He said that cut down on his overflow noise and it had to kill the light. IF I can find it I will reference it.

It was a external overflow, but it still may work.
