Does anyone have any ideas for a 30 gallon for lighting? I can get a kit with fluorescent lighting hood. i have heard of some aquarists using bulbs from home depot for their reef tanks? Does anyone have more info about this or would it be better to buy bulbs from the pet store?

What kind of lighting in K is best for a reef tank?

well, "best" has to do with your objective.

Lower K (ex. 10k) will give you better growth but higher (20K) will look bluer (and some people think nicer). Ultimately, you'll need to find what you like best.
