Would this work?
I had an idea and wanted to run it by everyone here and see if anyone has any thoughts on it. I have a Coralife 220 protein skimmer and I am using it as a hang on because I can't put a sump in anytime soon. I also have a box filter that has been used to run carbon. My question is, to get the pump out of my display tank, could I put it in the box filter and have it pump the water from there. I'm guessing the box filter won't be able to suck water fast enough to keep up with the skimmer pump, but I thought I'd ask. If you think it won't work, do you have any suggestions on how to hide the pump aside from having a sump, of course. Thanks a lot.

All I can say is try it but I think you are right and it wont be able to keep up.
If you get an Octopus 800 HOB skimmer for $230 the pump in in the skimmer
