true Xanthiids are usually very reef compatible and (in fact) protect their host coral from attack.
http://www.reefs.org/library/talklog/l_ho_051197.html quote from well respected coral farmer Leonard Ho: "There are some organisms that eat SPS corals, so careful attention is required after you purchaseand place a new SPS. Some Mithrax crabs (hairy brown crabs) can eat SPS polyps. I have hadone devour an entire row of polyps on a Acropora. On the other hand, some SPS do come with little Xanthiid crabs found within their branches, and these crabs cause no problem at all, defending the host SPS against predators." In fact, I have several Xanthiids in my SPS colonies and they protect them from my Butterflyfishes. It's kewl to watch

I also read that their bite contained palyotoxins so their was a caution to the reefer too.

I'm doing a search but the immediate question that comes to my mind is how would one of these crabs manage to BITE someone? It would be their claws that might be able to grab a finger...

I still haven't found any references to Xanthiid Palyotoxin but certain Xanthiid species are not entirely reef aquarium compatible as they may eat desirable reef organisms.

ahhh!
from ingesting a crab. No problem there- I always eat breakfast before I frag corals!
still... I wonder if the crabs produce palytoxins on their own OR if they harbor these toxins after consuming certain Palythoa
