EMERGENCY! My tang keeps hiding and not moving

I dont know whats wrong with my blue tang =(

I came home found him hiding under a rock and not moving around like usual with the other fishes.

I thought he was dead for a sec so I went to move him and he moved to another section of the tank and hid under another rock where I couldnt touch him.

Is this normal?!?! Im really worried! =(

i worked with a blue hippo tang that was very aloof and loved to swim around the tank. once, she was exposed to ich, and hid all the time. i quarentined (spelling?) her and when she returned to the tank ich free, she was back to normal.

perhaps, she's not feeling well?
have you put any new items into your tank without properly quaretining?

if so, maybe your fishy is sick.

is she eating?

(take everything i say with a grain of salt, hehe, i'm very new at this)

normal--I have a 5 inch blue who is a real baby--the slightest noise ect and it takes off into its hiding place in the rock

Don't be suprised to see your blue tank lying sideways or sliding into a really small crevise backwards either

Oh?

I mean when I first got her she was hiding around the coral. Like inside the giant coral.

I was guessing she was shy and just getting use to the tank. A day later she was fine swimming everywhere. And I havent seen her do anything like this till now.

I dropped some flakes in to give my fishes somethign to nibble on till I feed them later on. But she kept hiding and didnt come out to eat =(

I just dont want her to die.

How long has your tank been established? What is your filtration/ LR amount? What size is your tank?

I rather not buy a new one.

My friend has tried raising one the same size as the one I had and it died many times.

Its a used tank. the stuff in there have been around for a long time.

I think my tank is crashing. My step dad at one point a few weeks ago kept buying new stuff.

I asked him to check the water since he was adding things.

But I guess he didnt cehck it. Im about to do it now.
Ill keep you guys posted.

I found a dead crab too. It either tried to eat the dead tang (dont know if it eats fish) and poisoned itself or something. but it was found dead right next to the tang.
Both were under a rock this time. looksl iek the crab tried to drag it into its layer

Tank originally only had A galaxea coral. two live rocks with these plant things growing on them (forgot what they are called)

3 turbo snails. and a few hermit crabs. (and a few emerald crabs my friend didnt know about)

After I got it about 3 or 4 weeks ago.

They added 2 Fire Shrimps 2 clown fish, and 2 fire fish.

a few days alter they added a gobe a torch coral, a tongue coral.
and a sea urchin. and clam

and just last week he bought this giant coral. the tang, another sea urchin. a sponge. feather duster. scallop

i kept telling him after the first set he boughtto slow it down.
1 fish every 6 weeks and a coral a few weeks more than that of the fish.

but didnt listen. made him return scallop but i didnt know he bought a mandarin fish.

tank I bought is crashing cause he didnt listen!
MAKES ME SO MAD! That my tank is crashing cause they wont listen to me and rather listen to the fish store!

Better prep some water for a water change. You'll likely need it. Also consider returning that manderin. It won't likely survive, either.

Yea. Im going to force him to return whatever I say return.

Step dad rather believe the fish store than my research.

Going to check water now before I attempt a change

It's a master kit by API. If it's a new one and none of the tests are expired, your water would be fine as long as you did the tests correctly (ie. shook the bottles properly and cleaned test tubes). API tests tend to expire very quickly however, so that's something you might want to look into especially if it's a used kit. I think the expiration dates are printed directly on the bottles.

That was a lot of livestock to add to a small tank (and I won't badger you about the blue tang in such a small tank, but it is a definite no-no). You mentioned that you've had it about a week before it died (unless I misread), so it's possible you just had a poorly handled specimen.

You didn't mention your salinity or temperature, but a large change in either of those could easily kill a fish and/or crab. Maybe someone topped off with saltwater? or unplugged a heater?

Some water changes will be to your benefit, so get on those ASAP. Don't get too discouraged.

The cards aren't attached, you hold the bottle to the card to check the color.

Be sure you aren't pouring water from the fish store into your tank. You could be pouring copper into your tank, which will kill your inverts.

Mandarins are pretty, but generally only eat a certain type of live food which only a large established tank can provide. You need to return him ASAP, in my opinion.

Tell your step dad to get his own tank, or sell him this one and get a nano for your room.
