Copper treatment and powerheads?

Can I put a powerhead that I had in a tank for copper treatment back in my reef after I clean it? Same thing with a skimmer?

I made that mistake once and my inverts all kicked the bucket. I don't know if there is a way to get all of the copper out of it.

I would think a few gallons of vinegar and then a thorough rinse would do it but I have never tried.
