Frogspawn not fully opening?? Looked beatiful at LFS??
Hey all, Have a 150 G reef and all water parameters are fine. All sps and other corals look well. Last week I brought home a really nice 5 headed frogspawn where the owner let me knwo it had just came in a few hours before from a customers tank. The thing looked amazing and was already wide open and huge after just a few hours in the LFS tank. (WhereI may add the water quality is probably worse than mine. The coral is still healthy and isn't melting or anything but it is never really come out fully yet since we got it a week ago. Any thoughts. I do have hermit crabs in the tank but NEVER see any of them bother it. It's not in direct flow near any power heads or anything either.

It may be adjusting to lighting variations between the previous owners tank and yours...do you know what they were growing under in the previous owners tank?...what are you lighting your tank with?

i had the same problem when i got a 10 head frogspawn. i was running 250 w mhs' and he was running t-5s. move it to the bottom and shaded area and see if that helps then gradually move it to where you want it.

Flow, they like low flow and if you have too much flow they will close up. Find a cave for it or a place with low flow.

Frog Spawns seem to do better when they are lower in the tank. All of mine are at the bottom in the sand.
It is also best when adding any coral to your tank to start with it at the bottom of your tank & slowly move it up over a few weeks. It doesn't matter where it was at the LFS, when you add it to your tank start it at the bottom
