Major Help Please????

OK so im very confused? If I just set up my new 56 gallon tank and place 56 pounds of live fully cured rock in it, does that mean i dont have to cycle it?

No sir. You still will have a cycle period. If the rock was fully cured, it will make cycling faster, but you will still need to cycle the tank.

Curing live rock refers to the eradication of the organisms on the live rock that died during transport. If it's fully cured, the rocks should be pretty clean. You need to cycle the tank in any circumstance to build up the beneficial bacteria in the tank that will convert your ammonia to nitrite then to nitrate.

From my understanding, if you had significant die-off from the rock, that can help cycle your tank by producing ammonia from the decomposing organisms. My rock was pretty clean when I put it in, and I've had no noticeable ammonia spike, so I'm in the process of trying to get the tank to cycle through other means.

That's my understanding of it, anyway. If I'm wrong please correct me.

Your might try dropping a small piece of shrimp in the tank if you have no fish. That helps it along :-)

I didn't see any change in my ammonia for a week when I started my cycle almost a month ago. I dropped 2 big deli shrimp in some old pantyhose of my gf's in there and let them float near the return for a week. After a day or so you will see ammonia rise. P.S. The shrimp get REALLY gross after a week in your tank. It will definetly help IMO...
